Mega-tech at your Fingertips
PET has extensive IT facilities with a total of more than 150
computer workstations available for students’ use. Mostly
based in the computer lab, the IT facilities include connectivity
to a leased line, WINNT, Sun Solaris and Linux Servers. The Advanced
Computer Lab has a separatemicroprocessor lab and multimedia labs.
Equipped with scanners, laser and line printers, the computer
lab is the place where most of the students hone their skills
rigorously. Apart from practical classes, students can register
for a Computing account when they start off at PET and they are
then able to use any of the PCs at the lab.
The PET website provides students with access to a wealth of
resources relevant to their studies at the college.
Pailan Net: The
Students of the college can also get every detail of the academic
sessions and curricula as well as a host of other information
from the Pailan Net System. This system was inaugurated by Sri
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West
Bengal, on 29 November 2003.
Hospitality & Media Labs.
Gearing up for the new WBUT hospitality and media sciences curricula,
PET has made major investments in laboratories and workshops
equipped with cutting-edge technology. These are intended to serve
fulltime students and-given their extended capacities-operate
as commercial production and R & D centres as well. The media
laboratories include digital pre and post-production equipment,
audio studio, and cine as well as still shooting floors.
A Rare Knowledge Repository
The library is an integral part of their study and research at
PET. The college library offers a wide range of materials-from
books, magazines and periodicals, to specialised journals. Besides,
many subject areas are covered by electronic information services.
The college library already has more than 6000 volumes of subject-specific
books and 100 journals, periodicals, magazines and dailies. The
library is open for 60 hours each week.
Subject
teams along with Librarian, provide expert guidance on the vast
range of resources available in the library including external
databases and the internet. The teams offer guidance on the appropriate
specialist collections, information centres and services available
else where in India. Students can also retrieve information through
CD-ROM and other electronic media on a wide range of subject areas.
The ‘Online Library’ being set up through Pailan Net
shall provide computers for students’ usage . All the computers
are connected to the internet, e-mail, word-processing facilities,
CD Roms and other electronic resources.
An Eye For The State-of-the- Art Lab
PET has also laid out a resourceful laboratory infrastructure
for its Optometry and Vision Science Department. This infrastructure
is being developed with utmost care as one of the best Vision
Science Labs. For practical work in Eastern India. Major investments
in both expertice and equipment have been made in this lab for
the benefit of B. Optm students.
Pailan Eye Clinic
OPD equipped with Slit-lamp with Applanation Tonometer, Keratometer,
Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope etc.
