Pushing Back the Frontiers

It all started with a dream- the dream of a simple man, Apurba Saha. He had a vision and the will to re-invent Pailan, a lesser, under-privileged neighbourhood in the twice-blessed Joka suburbs of Kolkata.

It was in 1989 that he initiated the ambitious Pailan Park project, and today Pailan Park is Bengal Pailan Park-a mega-city-in-the-making, through a Joint Sector initiative between West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Authority Limited & Bengal Pailan Park.

With a dream unfolding ever so rapidly, from near-rural greenfields to modern township, Apurba Saha took yet another bold initiative-this with a view to establish such centres of learning that would produce much-in-demand professionals.

The infrastructure was in place, the support-systems were already lined up, there were lots of academic resources in Kolkata to draw upon, and there was the resolve to create in Pailan Park on enclave that offers a blend of gracious living with the higher, evolved thinking of the academic fraternity.

With three professional colleges now functional-two of these ISO-certified (PCMT included)-Apurba Saha's dream is yet nowhere near fulfilled. Work on the Rs.100 crore Pailan World School (PWS) project is well underway.

And the state-of-the-art Pailan Park Film City on the anvil, includes a proposal for comprehensive hands-on-training facilities for aspiring film-makers and technicians.

All this is but a part of the larger vision to establish hub that is not constrained in terms of space amenities, where the institute and their campuses are housed in cubby-holes.

Today the vision of Apurba Saha finds expression through Pailan Group the apex body orchestrating his ‘employment trust’-and through the support & active participation of a professionally managed team, whose agenda is to help further a cause more by missionary zeal than the compulsion of commerce.

‘I was young; I too had a dream a dream of galvanising the best, so that we could, collectively, bequeath our best to generation-next’…

Apurba Saha, Chairman, Pailan Group
